Porcelain Tiles Installation Procedures – With Adhesive
Adhesive is a crucial component of cement-based tiles installation on the floor or wall. The procedures are as follows:
- Setting out
Determine the elevation of the surface and then create the starting point based on the elevation.
- Screeding
After the Setting Out phase is done and the location is clean and dry, the screeding can be carried out in the following order:
- Apply the cement with the composition of 1:4, or use instant cement with the recommended composition.
- Flatten the screeding by pouring the mixture of instant cement and water and then flatten it with ruler. The flatness of screeding affects the adhesive usage.
- Preparations
- Pay attention to the codes on the box
- 6050729 is the production code, 060060081 is the size (60x60) and the color of the tiles (081 = hyperwhite), 1 is the quality level, PT is the caliber (the actual size), NW is the color shade, Q4/M6/7 is the QC Marketing Code.
- If there are more than one code/serial numbers, group the tiles based on each code/serial numbers.
- It is recommended to spread out several tiles (at least 5 m2) to get the fullest effect.
- Clean the surface.
- Ensure the screeding is already passed the one week drying phase.
- Prepare trowel as needed: 6x6 mm for tiles before 40/40, 9x9 mm for tiles between 40/40 and 60/60, half circle for tiles more than 60/60
- Installation
- Plan the starting point carefully.
- Apply the tile adhesive to the surface.
- Flatten the mixture with the appropriate trowel.
- Place the tiles over the mixture and hammer them with plastic hammer to adjust the bevel and naad.
- Use spacer or nail with the appropriate diameter in conjunction with the desired naad distance. The recommended naad distance is 2 mm. The usage of naad is highly recommended as it serves as adhesive between tiles and has decorative element to it as well as neutralizes the expansion of the tiles and unequal dimension between tiles.
- To get a good level, use waterpass.
- Clean the surface of each installed tile from the mixture before it dries up.
- During installation, avoid colored liquid such as tea, coffee, soft drink, etc.
- If such stain emerged from the substance mentioned above, clean it immediately.
- Provide protection for the installed tiles if there were other works nearby.
- Ensure the installed tiles are always in dry condition.
- Do not mark the tiles with color marker.
